What is Levofloxacin 500 mg?

Levofloxacin is a potent, broad-spectrum antibiotic used to treat a variety of bacterial infections. It works by inhibiting an enzyme called DNA gyrase, which bacteria need to replicate and repair their DNA. By stopping this process, the medicine effectively kills the bacteria.

Common Uses : 

Levofloxacin 500 mg tablets is typically prescribed for:

  • Respiratory Infections: Pneumonia, acute sinusitis, and chronic bronchitis flare-ups.
  • Urinary Tract Infections (UTI): Including complicated infections and kidney infections (pyelonephritis).
  • Skin Infections: Bacterial infections of the skin and soft tissues.
  • Prostate Infections: Chronic bacterial prostatitis.
  • Other: It may also be used for anthrax exposure or plague in specific clinical settings.

 How to Use :

  • Dosage: Usually taken once daily, but always follow the specific duration prescribed by your doctor (even if you feel better earlier).
  • Administration: Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. It can be taken with or without food.
  • Dairy Warning: Avoid taking the tablet with dairy products (milk, cheese, yogurt) as they can interfere with the drug’s absorption.
  • Hydration: Drink plenty of fluids while taking this medication to prevent crystals from forming in the urine.

 Possible Side Effects :
